advice wanted from experienced elegant dress sewers (Moderated by Deepika, Sharon1952)

I am getting married June 11th in what I would call a semi-formal afternoon wedding. I am going to use view B, pink dress. The fabric I have is a pale pink dupioni. I purchased pink organza to line it with, but now I am wondering if I should underline it with the organza instead, or if I should line it with china silk. My sister is coming up three weeks before the wedding to help me make this...we will embellish the neckline with lace, pearls, maybe fabric roses. And probably lace on the empire seam as in view A, not a tie like vB.
Thanks in advance for the input!

How pretty!
Shellia, check over on this thread where the resident experts are giving me lots of great lining and underlining advice for the dupioni dress I'm making.

Interestingly, in another thread Leslie in Austin was just talking about duppioni:

Scroll down about half way.
(this was in reference to underlining)
I'm not experienced enough to know if you should underline or line (& I missed the recent class on that, drat) but if you do underline you will want to think about the effect of the fabric.

I just did a test drive of a dupioni from my stash with organza and with broadcloth. The differences are really interesting. The broadcloth gives it a richer, full but drapey feel, the organza is light and crisp. I rather like the broadcloth's effect.

With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

I would definitely recommend underlining the dupioni. You will be very pleased with the results for lots of reasons (wrinkles less, gives nice body, prevents show-through on seams, gives you something to sew hems to, etc.). You can underline with the organza and then line with something else (china silk would be fine) or you can underline with a batiste or even a flannel -- that gives a lovely full look but is probably too hot for a June wedding. Make a couple of test swatches to see what you like best. By the way, the pattern is lovely.
ETA: I would use the organza to underline only if it is silk -- if poly I would probably choose something more breathable.

Thank you Leslie and Anne for the valuable reference to the vintage dress thread. The organza I have is silk, and I kind of would like to use it if possible...I'll have to get them out and drape them together.

Silk organza underlining is pretty much always a good choice. You can underline with other fabrics for different effects, but its hard to go wrong with silk organza. You can choose to line or not line, according to the sheerness of your fashion fabric, time of year of your event, etc. I highly recommend Susan Khalje's "Bridal Couture" as a reference. You don't have to slavishly follow her methods, but she helps make sense of a sometimes daunting project.

This sounds lovely - embellishment is my thing so I'll always cheer a team going for it!
You can make wonderful fabric roses from scraps of the dupioni - they're really easy to make and would be a good base for the rest of the embellishment.
As for lace - well the sky's the limit really. The Susan Khalje book that Georgene mentions is also an excellent primer on the various types of laces. Susan explains in detail how to use them and apply them as embellishment. Fine laces are expensive, but you can really get a lot of bang for your buck evenwith a small amount (1/2 yard to 1 yard)
When you get to the trimming stage give yourself lots of time (at least three days) to work out the placement of the embellishment. You'll need to do a few mock ups before it feels "right."
