How do I adapt to shoulder princess style? (Moderated by Deepika, Sharon1952)
Posted on: 5/14/06 2:52 PM ET
I'm making a jacket that has shoulder princess style lines and I'm drafting my own lining pieces. For the lining, I think it'd be best to create one back piece with a pleat instead of having the three pieces (center plus side panels) and extra seams in the lining. Is that the correct thing to do? If so, it's not clear to me (I am seriously challenged in the geometry department) how I would do that. Can someone please explain the steps I'd go through to draft that back piece?
I should note that with the princess lines, the back is very shaped and will not lie flat. That's my big problem in trying to figure out how draft the lining.
Thanks,
Jean

I would go ahead and make the lining with the shoulder seams, just like the jacket, since it is fitted and shaped. JMHO. You can use the same pieces as the jacket pattern, just be sure to raise the armhole at the bottom, and lower at the top if you have a shoulder pad.
