I want to use some rayon thread to do some straight stitch topstitching on linen. Does Rayon thread shrink or run?

If it does either one of these, how do you pretreat it on the spool?

I have not used this before, so any insight will be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe it shrinks or runs. Rayon thread is quite commonly used for machine embroidery. I do know that it's not as durable as polyester. For example, it's not recommended for use in children's embroidery because it apparently won't stand up to multiple washings. But I don't know how quickly it breaks down. I do all my machine embroidery with rayon thread but since most of my projects have been gifts or items I don't launder often, I can't offer any experience.

I think the rayon thread would work fine for top stitching. I never thought about rayon thread running, but I guess it might be prudent to stitch some on a piece of white cloth and wash it to make sure, especially if you're doing something like red thread on white.

There have been times I picked up my Sulky rayon thread to sew seams simply because it was the correct color and I didn't want to get dressed and go to Hancock's. Or because of frustration that I have 120 spools of thread and refuse to buy one more. But back to the question. I've never had a the rayon thread shrink or run. Now I don't know about it's longevity.
