I realize I should wash interfacing prior to using. But how do I wash it? By hand, in the washer???...and if its iron on I assume I don't iron it until after I wash it when I use it for the garment??
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Coming out of Lurkdom to answer....I alawys fill the sink with some warm water and submerge, let it sit a few minutes and them hang to dry over a shower rod. You really don't want to actually wash fusables, just make sure they won't shrink and bubble when used. Others may have other methods to share.Hope this helps!

I agree with Corinne. However, I usually use hot water and let the interfacing sit until the water starts to cool. Don't wring the interfacing, but sqweeze the water out and hang it over the shower curtain rod. It usually dries very quickly. Some schools of thought say you can just steam it, but I prefer soaking and drying.
If you are using a non-fusible, sew-in interfacing you can throw it in the washing machine and dryer as long as it is considered washable.

So...are you really saying to wash fusible interfacing prior to using it? You probably just ***did***, but I'm double-checking. I guess I assumed the water might do womething bad to the fusing agent.
This is a great topic...my pants bubbled everywhere I used interfacing after I washed them.

Yes, I think everyone is in agreement that you need to prewash your interfacing. If it's just the sew-in kind, make sure you either pink or serge the edges to prevent it from ravelling before throwing it into the washer. If it's the fusible kind, I agree with Corinne and Marilyn B on how it should be done.
Now, it really doesn't seem to me that your bubbling problem is from not washing your interfacing, but rather from not fusing it properly and evenly. After I finish fusing, I always turn it over and iron on the right side just to make sure all of it is fused. Was your iron hot enough? Or, too hot? Did you use a dry iron? I think the directions for fusing are to use a dry iron......no steam.
Where did you use fusible interfacing on pants? I can't ever remember using interfacing on pants. Of course, it's been awhile since I've made pants, too.

OK - thanks.
I did use steam - oops.
I used the interfacing on the waistband, pocket flaps, and fly facing. The bubbles iron out OK - but eeeewwww if I don't press well after washing. I'll try no steam next time.

OK, now I understand. I had visions of bubbles all over the legs.
