I was debating about getting a Janome MC 3000, and then I started looking at the Singer Futura CE200 and how it can also do embroidery, and with a bigger stitch field than 4x4. I momentarily (well, over a few days) forgot my true purpose of getting a solid, dependable sewing machine and began to think of all the things I could do with the embroidery side! (Even though I received good information about the Janome right on this board! I saw the video of the Singer and thought of all the cute goodies I could embroider.)

I purchased it through an online vendor (HSN) on a payment plan, where you can return within 30 days if not satisfied. Although now I wish I would have thought it through more and feel like I should have gone with the Janome MC3000, it is too late for me to cancel shipment of the Singer.

I know many of you are experienced sewers, even if not with the Singer. Would you think in this situation I should give the Singer a good try, and see what I think of it, and return it within the 30 days if it has problems? Or do you think I would be so much happier with the Janome? I didn't have anywhere near me to try the machines out.

I have a Janome, which I love. I have heard some negative things about Singer; however, since it is on it's way anyways, you should get it out of the box and try it. What do you have to lose? You can still return it and get the Janome if you don't love it. You may love your Singer.

I agree with PattyU. Since it's already on its way and you can return it in 30 days anyway, you might as well try it out. A sewing machine is a big purchase for us, so sometimes doubt will set in no matter what you buy. The whole shopping process is a headache.

I second the notion for giving it a try... on the downside, you won't know how reliable the machine is until it's too late.

As much as I trash-talk the new Singers, there are (supposedly) some good ones out there.

You may find that you don't like how the machine operates, and then your confliction is solved!

I don't know how much you have shopped with HSN, but they are a very good conpany to do business with. They really do take things back with no questions asked. So my suggestion is the same as the others. Try it out since it is on way. And I have found that they refund the original shipping. You'd be out one way. And I know there are people who have and love this machine.

Sew-Mama,
You thought hard about your purchase. You considered pros and cons. There are a lot of things you like about the machine you bought. I agree, you should give it a try and see how you feel about it.

I feel so much better now! Thanks for your encouraging words. I'll read the manual a few times and see what it (the Futura) can do!

I just looked up this machine on HSN and it has very good reviews from other customers! It's a good payment plan too - no interest and no sales tax! I always get nervous when I make a big purchase! It looks like a great machine! Let us know how you like it.

I agree with the others. It's always easy to have a machine lust for something else once you've made your decision. I remember deciding between the a kenmore, my brother and bernina. Whenever I'd hear about one or the other I'd always think...maybe I should have... But, honestly I love my brother, it was a good value, it does what I need it to do and then some and it was the right machine for me. I bet your Singer will be a good fit for you, there were things that made you decide to take the leap and it will work out fine! Happy sewing.
