Too basic for what I want to learn??? (Moderated by EleanorSews)
Posted on: 6/12/06 10:27 PM ET
I've signed up for 2 two-hour classes in pants fitting at Sew Amazing in Bloomington. I've heard great things about their classes. But (there's always a but) we are using an elastic waist pull on pant pattern from Kwik Sew's Easy Sewing book. I was hoping to get help with my 2 big issues 1) my Navajo flat behind and 2)the little belly I've developed. I'm now concerned that I may not learn how to solve those 2 particular problems. I also never wear elastic waist pants. Any thoughts?

You might not leave the class with your new favorite pair of pants, but you might learn enough of the basic principles of pants-fitting that your knowledge will transfer over to fitted pants. If nothing else, you get some help pinning and altering, and you won't have to ask the dog to hold the mirror so you can see behind you....

Karla, LOL re: the dog holding the mirror! You crack me up.
My two cents about this pants fitting class:
While it's true that you may not get all the information you want about how to get a non elastic waist pant to fit, you will probably get some good information about your particular crotch curve. Knowing what your personal crotch curve is one of the vital elements in getting a good fit for your behind.
You can also tell the teacher what you would specifically like to learn from the class and hopefull the teacher will tailor some fitting techniques for you.
Is it possible to speak with the teacher before signing up for the class, and asking these same questions, to see whether the teacher thinks you will learn what you want to learn from it?
The place that I take classes from gives us the contact information for the teachers, for this very reason.
Good luck!
