Hi all , i have a vintage singer 15J sewing machine. I am looking to get a new sewing machine. I was wondering if any of you have heard of the brand Omega. It is sold at Walmart.ca, seeing i am from Canada. It looks good for the price. Please let me know if you have one or know someone that has one. I want to know if it is a good brand, if you have some problems with it ect... Because i can't seem to see it in the sewing machine reviews, sigh. I do not want to spend a lot of money , not more then 300$. Thank you very much for the help.

I think I have seen Necchi Omega machines on line. I suppose the name Omega could be used on other brands but you might want to do a google search on the Necchi and see if that is the machine you have seen. If so maybe there are reviews here at PR or maybe on line at Epinions. Sorry, I have no more info on this model, perhaps someone else does and will post.

For the same price or a little more, you could get a Kenmore or a Janome. That would be less of a shot in the dark.

Or if you have a dealer near by, you could get a new-to-you machine that has been gone over and serviced?

I can't say that the "Omega" is a bad machine. I never heard of it before.

Hi -
I'm from Canada, too. Many years ago when I worked with sewing machines, the Omega brand was a low cost basic machine. The Omega sergers were a disaster but the sewing machines were OK.

I, too, recommend against the WalMart machines because when something goes wrong you will end up spending a lot servicing a machine that may not be worth that investment.

You should be able to get a decent used machine in your price range that would serve you much better.
cheers
