I've read instructions for how to alter a regular waistaband for a sway back. What about sway back alterations for a skirt (2 pieces) with a cut-on elastic waist? The skirt I'm working on appears relatively smooth in front but there's a lot of bunching in the back. Would I just lower the waistline in the center back?

Is it really sway back or do you just need to pinch out a couple of darts?

Elastic or not, our bodies are not straight up from our buttocks to our waist and something has to happen to strategically distribute the excess fabric.

If darts don;t seem like the thing, I'd try the Palmer Pletsch idea of tucking it under elastic and pulling up until the bunching is gone and then re-mark the new waistline with chalk.

The few elastic waist skirts I've made involve stretchy fabric as well to go over my large hips. In order to minimize the gathers in my own sway back, I angle the center back seam inward, sometimes up to one inch, creating a dart. I hope this helps.
