I'm making an armhole princess seam jacket from an ancient Burda WOF, so there are really no instructions. Furthermore, I'm using matelasse and the pattern instructions are for leather. WHAT was I thinking??? Must be the heat . . .

Anyway, none of the books in my 'library' tell me which direction to press the seam allowances over the bust area on a true armhole princess. I have the Vogue sewing book and they show it pressed open and top-stitched on both sides. Ummmm . . . I don't think that would look good on matelasse.

Which direction should the seam allowances go? Or do I press open and hope they stay flat? TIA

Yes do press the seam open on a pressing ham and if the seam allowance is 1 Centimeters = 0.39370 Inches or a bit less they will stay open.

Thank you els! I had already pressed the seams open, probably instinct or dumb luck. Shall I clip the seam allowance of the side panel?

If your seam allowance is not more than 1 cm it does not need to be clipped, but if you use larger allowances and line the jacket go ahead.

Thank you again, els. I sort of thought that would be your answer when you said to trim down the s/a to 1 cm.
