Is it possible to use the stretch velvet as the inside lining for a purse? My daughter had extra velvet material left and I said, "why don't you use it as the lining?" She did try it, but the machine sucks both fabrics in as soon as starts. She tried it a second time and happened again. If it is possible, does she need a thicker needle and does she need to hold the fabric tighter? She is making an outfit for her little cousins birthday. She finished the skirt with no problem. That was with the jean material only. Thanks for any tips.

The knit needs a ball point needle and the denim needs a sharp needle and that is probably what's causing the problem. To change the hand of the stretch velvet it would be a good idea to attach fusible interfacing to the back side and then use a size 90 or larger denim (sharp) needle. If this continues to happen, then have her also use a couple layers of masking tape to close up the sides of the needle hole on the throat plate or use a straight stitch throat plate if she has it. That should prevent the fabric from going down into the hole.
