automatic digitizing? (Moderated by Pyrose)
Posted on: 10/11/06 8:04 PM ET
Is there any software that automatically digitizes for you? Sort of point and click. I don't really want to spend a lot of time ditigizing, more editing, but would like the option of basic digitizing without a huge learning curve. In the absence of that have any of you had something digitized by someone else and been pleased with their services? That may be a better route. Get someone to do that part then I can just edit.
Thanks so much for everyones valued opinions.

There are several programs. I only know about Bernina Artista. The new level V5, called Editor Plus has autodigitizing along with really top knotch editing, 55 different lettering fonts along with yummy monogramming, mirror imaging, wreath tools, auto-applique and other stuff too numerous to mention. The auto-digitizing will turn artwork into stitches but you take what you get. Fine tuning would require the Designer Plus level but you could always upgrade if you decided to go that route later.
Right now there are software excercises on the Bernina website through the Quarterly Software Society. A Bernina educator moderates the excercises and you can ask questions and get help. I highly recommend this software.

Thank you Cheryl. I hadn't thought to look at Bernina since I have a Janome. I did searches for autodigitizing software and just came up with what looked to be professional level stuff (including prices). I'll stop by the sewing center and do a bit more research with them on their "brand" software.
Take care.

Embird will do automatic digitizing. You have to buy the Font Engine and Digitizing plug-ins to do it. It's pricey, but cheaper than any other auto-digitizing software I've found. Plus, it does many machine formats, so I don't have to worry about possibly changing embroidery machine brands in the future.
The way Embird does it, is you can import a vector file. It's basically a picture composed of layers. In some cases you can't just import it and start sewing right away. For example: You have a picture of a red ball over a black square. Most likely the red ball is a layer over top the black square background. So the machine would first embroider a black square, then attempt to embroider a red ball on top of that. It's not too bad to fix, because you just need to tweak the file somewhat so it doesn't fill in the black directly behind the red. You can do this in the Embird editor, or you can edit the vector file itself in another program. Personally, I use Paint Shop Pro to create/edit vector picture files. If it's just a quick simple fix, I'll just fix it in the Embird editor.
I really love using the auto-digitizing as I don't have much time to do all this digitizing by hand in an embroidery program.

I have no opinion as to what is the best embroidery digitizing software as my experience is only with Bernina Artista software. Artista software accepts either Vector or Bitmap artwork for digitizing. You can save your work to any of the major embroidery formats.

I saw that you got embroidery magic. Did you like it? I am looking to purchase it and was not sure what it could do. I want to do fonts and would also like to convert true type fonts to embroidery fonts.
Thanks you so much
