I'm considering making a skirt using crepe de chine but I've never sown using this type of fabric before. Can anyone give me so tips or point me to some information on this site?

I'm thinking in particular about:
- cutting out - how to stop the fabric from distorting
- any special type of thread I should use?
- any particular stich length etc.

Also I'll be lining the skirt but don't want to use the usual synthetic lining fabric - has anyone a reccommendation for something that would suit?

Thanks for your help

I like spray starch to stablize slippery and/or limp fabrics. Others have said that the starch gums up their machines. I've never had this problem.

Thread: I'd use regular poly sewing thread.

Stitch-length: experiment on a scrap.

Lining: rayon ambience

Is this a silk crepe de chine or a poly?

I haven't bought the fabric yet - I'm considering buying it online but am a bit hesitant as I haven't tackled it before. The description is 'Silky Crepe De Chine' but it's machine washable so I'm thinking it must be a poly.

I suppose there's only one way to find out - it isn't expensive so I think I'll just go for it. Thanks for the lining suggestion - I'll check that out.

I second Neefer's suggestion of using spray startch. I learned to do this from a Threads article years ago.
I really saturate the fabric with spray startch, then hang it over the shower curtain rod to dry. Cut out your pattern and sew as usual.
Good luck!
