If I can found out how to waterproof fabric, I plan on making a flag that will be flown 24/7. I plan on using heavy cotton fabric because I think, maybe I am wrong
, but I think it will hold up better in the weather, Texas style.
Can anyone help me with the waterproofing.
Thanks,

Two thoughts:
Why does it need to be water proof? We make waterproof clothes to keep a person inside dry, why does a flag need to be dry/
Two, why heavy cotton? Most flags I have seen are made of fairly light nylon. They are supposed to flutter in a breeze.
I do not think cotton will hold up to sun very well either.
The heavier the fabric, the stronger you will have to make the seams, fasteners etc.

There is a company called nik wax that makes all kinds of products to water proof fabrics including cotton.

The main problem I can see with cotton, is that the texas sun will fade the colors and weaken the fibers.
You might check out 200 denier pack cloth, it's quite popular for flags. It's heavier than ripstop, but still easy to sew.

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

Thanks for your replies. After posting my message I read the information included with our new US flag and found out that they lasted far longer then normal.
So I guess I will either purchase another Texas flag or check out the informtion provided by Diane S.
Thanks again,
