I guess ITY is the short for Italy(?). But too bad they are 92% polyester which I try to avoid.

I got some of the striped jersey knit in a mystery bundle that's mostly polyester. It's very nice quality and feels great. It actually looks like a cotton blend unlike EOS buttermilk which look and feel like swimsuit fabric.
I imagine the ITY knits would be at least as good as the polyester "jersey knit" I received.

I'm wondering this myself. Spandex House has a whole category of "ITY" knits online. They look to be poly lycra, in a whole bunch of lovely prints that would be great for a wrap dress. So what does ITY mean?

I don't know what ITY stands for, but it is a poly spandex jersey. When you cut it, it curls, as jerseys will do.
It is very popluar in RTW these days. Most of the fabric comes from Korea. Its very stretchy and must be serged, straight stitch doesn't really work. Double needle hems or lettuce hem with your serger or zigzag.
There are lots of wonderful colors and prints done in this fabric. It has a matte aspect, and can be used for any swingy style, like a DVF wrap dress. It can cling, be gathered, or cut circular. It's good for circular ruffles necklines and cuffs.
Just beware that it is HEAVY. Armholes will stretch out on the hanger, so put in hanger loops at the side seams if you intend to store it on a hanger in your closet.
You can machine wash cold, and tumble dry. This stuff does not wrinkle. A great travel fabric.
If you have rolls or cellulite, every pimple shows if you fit tight. You can line it with 70 denier nylon, or work in some gathers to hide a multitude of sins.

Hi Georgene: I sent a note to Joann at Fabric Mart and she replied that this is an international blend poly lycra knit so you have pegged it right on - I am assuming lycra and spandex are the same?

She also mentioned this is being used a lot in RTW.

The price per yard at FM is quite low so will try a piece and see how it works out for me - knits travel well and that's always a huge plus for me.

I really appreciate all your info on this and will be sure to follow your suggestions when I do start making somethign from it.

Think I will certrainly work in a "multitude of gathers" to hide lumps and bumps

Thank you, Georgene -- I've been wondering too. My question, how does it compare with slinky? Sounds like it handles pretty much the same. Inquiring minds want to know.

Georgene - thank you for the details on how to work this knit. I also received the email from Fabric Mart but wasn't sure what exactly the knit was. Your post is very helpful. I think I will order some and see how I like it working with this one.
