You too can be a fashion designer (Moderated by Deepika)

Are any of us doing this? Second Life is an interactive "world" that is free to join, and people can create their own realities there. Fantasies being what they are, many choose to appear as incredibly beautiful humans...who then spend every waking moment shopping for clothes. People can design and sell their own fashions to others...AND you can make real money doing this!
I'm a member, and I have just started in on the clothing tutorials - it's mainly done in Photoshop, using templates on a grid. The thing is that most of the clothing offered for sale is quite trampy...this seems to be what most people want. My goal is to make clothes that are just a little bit more stylish on a grown-up level, which is sorely lacking in the game.

Hello Penny!
I'm working on creating a RL Stitcher's Guild inside SL. If you're interested, come in world, and send me an IM.
My name is DragonLady Merlin, and I'd love to hear from any sewists who are also Second Lifers.

I've heard of Second Life, but never been there yet. The idea of fashioning sounds genuinely interesting. What you're talking about is a form of texture mapping, right? How hard is it to do?
I'm a cartoonist, but I recently used Photoshop to make a 'virtual croquis' for DD to test out design proportions on this STYLE dress and a few others.

I had a blast to doing this, - like paper dolling for grownups. :)

Wow! That is to die for. I don't own Photoshop, or I'd be begging you t tell me how to do that. That's the perfect answer to "I wonder how I'd look in..."

If I sewed any slower, I wouldn't be sewing at all.

I've started a blog about my efforts to get this going:
http://artisanssquare.com/sl/blog.html I'll add an SLURL as soon as I'm sure exactly how it's done. :)

You're right, Marilly...it's texture mapping.
Check it out if you
re interested...it's super fun.
Talk about paper dolls...you can customize your litle self, get rid of all those figure faults we struggle with , and buy fabulous outfits that fit perfectly. Um, and you can also socialize with the other people there. I'll leave it at that, becuaw I am much too resepectable a woman to ever indulge in such a thing (hee hee).

I searched long and hard for the right building! Finally, I found the right building, but in the wrong place. Thankfully, the owner worked with me, and moved the whole thing to a better neighborhood. :)
You are more than welcome to join me there -simply do a search for "Dragonlady Merlin" and then send me an IM. I look forward to meeting you. :)
