Things to look out for sewing delicate fabrics to vinyl (Moderated by EleanorSews)

I would like to sew delicate fabrics like; satin, silk, organza and chiffon to vinyl. I have two layers of vinyl and two layers of fabric. What is the best method? What needles do I need? What stitch should I use? Any other suggestions? I know this is not something a beginner should try so soon, but I know I can do it with a little advice first.

This is definitely unusual!
I find myself wondering how thick the vinyl is, because if it's fairly thick, you'll need a bigger size needle. The way these fabrics are stacked or layered may make a difference too.
The satin, silk, organza, and chiffon are normally sewn with a fine needle, and shorter stitches. These fabrics are also wiggly and/or slippery to work with. It helps to hand baste or use lots of pins.
The vinyl needs to be sewn with much longer stitches because every stitch will perforate the vinyl. If you perforate it too much, it will tear. Depending on what type/thickness of vinyl, it could be very hard to pin. Also, pins leave permanent holes, so only pin in the seam allowance area, and not near the stitching line.
So my best advice:
Use a bigger needle and longer stitch length that's necessary for your vinyl.
A washable glue stick may be helpful in holding all the layers together.
Practice. Use scraps of all these fabrics, stacked/layered similarly to the way you'll use them in your project. This will allow you to see if you can make them all work together first.
Good luck :)

Thank you very much, that is very helpful, I will try those suggestions. All the fabric together is 1/8th in. The vinyl is very soft and flexible. The delicate fabrics are going to be on the out side and the seam is not going to be too visible, so these ideas sound great.
