My boys want sleeveless T-shirts. They have a lot of long sleeved ones that will never fit them next winter. Would I just hack off the sleeves and serge around the edges? Or would it be better to rip all the sleeve stitches out and then serge?

My daughter wants short sleeved, not sleeveless. Is there a particular way to cut off the sleeve, so it hangs right? Or do I just make sure to cut straight around, equal distance from the shoulder seam down?

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the sleeveless T's, but to make short sleeves it's best to mark them while your daughter is wearing the shirt. If you just whack them off they can end up shorter on top than underneath, depending on how the sleeve is drafted. Just put in a few pins - outside, under the arm and in-between - and make sure they're parallel to the floor. If you have several shirts that are the same style (from the same manufacturer), of course you only need to mark one.

Thanks, Irene. I figured it was going to be a bit more difficult than just whacking them off. I'm just going to rip the stitches out of the sleeve for the boys, then try serging around the curve. Worse case scenario is they'll have lots of sleeveless t-shirts to wear around the barn.
