useing diffrent fabrics? (Moderated by EleanorSews)

I am making a dress for my little girl, but its just a plain purple jersey type material. I was thinking of putting a little heart applique on it. I have a really cute pink fabric with little roses on it, but its not a streachy knit like the dress is. Would it still work or would I totally ruin it?

It won't hurt your knit to put an applique on it...the only exception I can think of, would be if the applique was so heavy that the knit couldn't stand the weight. But you could pin it on to test for that.
Just be sure to stabilize your knit, if you sew the applique on by machine, so it can't stretch out of shape. If you don't have a tear-away stabilizer that you can pin behind the knit, you can always use a piece of paper.

thanks. I was thinking of doing an iron on thing first and then sewing the edges. would that be enough to stableize it? or do I still need something behind it?

I would still put something behind it and larger all around. You really don't want to stretch the knit. Also, make sure the applique is relatively small.
