I'm not sure I know what you mean when you say "double thread". Are you talking about a twin needle - one thread in each needle???
In hand sewing, I use a strand of thread through the eye of the needle and then tie the two ends together (double thread????)
Could you give us a better description of what you are talking about????

What is Maxine saying??

Like Mary said, maybe you mean that you want to use a twin needle [this has one post that holds two needles], which uses two spools of thread on top of your machine.
Or...if I was going to use two threads in my machine [for decorative purpose?], I'd use two spools of thread on top of my machine, and thread them both through the machine together. I'd also use a topstitching needle, so the eye of the needle would be big enough to hold them both. Then use a needle threader to get them both through the eye, at the same time.
When hand sewing, you sometimes use a single thread, sometimes a double. For a single, you thread the needle and knot only one end. For doubled, you hold both of the ends together, and then knot them together.
HTH :)
