I posted this in the sticky at the top of the forum, but I think I put it in the wrong place, so here we go again...
Well after a bit of a lurk, a question answered and a voracious reading of the archives I guess its my turn to introduce myself.
I'm Alex, I live in Houston, TX and am happily married to a wonderful woman who makes my world go 'round.
In late high school and throughout college I was a theater techie guy, and as a result I learned out of necessity how to sew (those costumes don't make themselves). Mind you I couldn't call it good sewing, but it worked for the 2 weeks it was needed.
Recently my wife and I have been trying to cut out lots of the expenses in our life - gone is the TV and alot of other little budget monsters. As such I have tons of extra time now in the evenings (its amazing how 3-4 shows an evening become 3-4 hours of free time OMG what to do with it all), combined with the cost cutting I find myself with a new sewing machine, a pile of notions, a bag or two of fabric and a stack of patterns. Not to mention a new membership on Pattern Review!!! Let the learning begin!
I know, I know, not exactly good for the budget, but if it helps us out of buying stuff at the store and spending alot on clothes then its a good investment I say.
As mentioned earlier I have already posted a question and have received excellent feedback. I look forward to reading some more and participating in the boards and the pattern reviews as I go on.
Cheers!
Alex

Welcome to PatternReview Alex. You are absolutely right about TV. My husband and I are also struggling with the time spent on TV. We could be so much more productive in the evenings if we didn't have TV. But for now, since it's cheap entertainment (as you can tell I have no life ;-) ) so it's staying.
Do keep us posted on what you make next.

Hi Alex,
Welcome! I'm sure you will find plenty of ideas here to keep you busy
I didn't get rid of my TV (my dh would kill me if I got rid of his new flat screen), but truthfully there isn't much on that I find more interesting than PR and sewing.
My daughter is involved in the theatre and I know only too well how fast costumes have to come together. When its up on stage you don't notice the little errors from the audience!
Keep us posted on what you are creating!
