I'm wondering if anyone on PR is or has been involved in Waldorf education and if so, what you think of it.

Thanks for any thoughts you have to share!

Not directly, but there a schools near by.

Up until 8 years ago the local Waldorf school only went up to grade 7. Dh had a girlfriend with a much younger sister. The mum was very much into the Waldorf system. Unfortunately the daughter had a very difficult time making the transition to the regular school in grade 8.

Now we have a Waldorf high school, so they are segregated until college or university.

I attended Waldorf in Norway (there it's called the Steiner School after the founder, Rudolf Steiner). It was a good school with a strong emphasis on art. Many of my class mates (myself included) continued on with art, and others chose very different fields- for example, one is now a high-profile defense attorney.

I thought about enrolling my first child in Waldorf, Santa Monica, CA, but she was born after the cut-off date to start that fall at age 5. She was sooooo ready to start so I really had no choice

I do wish they'd taught me to read earlier. I presently have a five-year-old who's already getting there! And loving it too!

Michelle, was it academic adjustment, social or otherwise?

Birgitte, the reading is a sticking point for me too. My daughter wouldn't be able to start first grade until she's seven which means she probably wouldn't be reading in school until age nine.
