So yesterday my DH power washed the house and all the windows. I took down all the screens and washed all the insides. I also took down my miniblinds and left the windows with just my curtains. In my sewing room, I changed the curtains to a pretty valance in order to let in the most natural light and took down some heavier chenille drapes in my living room and change them to a taupe embroidered sheer. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The whole front of my house is so much brighter and open. I love being able to see clearly out of every window now.

Did you ever make a subtle change and think WOW! Why didn't I do this before? What was I thinking?

It sounds like you and your hubby did a lot of work. I'm so glad it paid off for you.

Putting bright daylight-type lightbulbs in my big overhead kitchen light fixture was one of the best simple things I've ever done.

I absolutely love sheers! Yes, they make all the difference.
For us in our new home, the wood floors was a definite improvement. After we installed it, we finally got brave and moved some of the furniture around and the LR sure seems bigger.
Sometimes it's just hard to get DH to go along....

Hi Babs42,

Yes: quite a few years ago I took down the ceiling-to-floor length drapes in my living room to take to the cleaners. As I was leaving the room, I glanced back and saw how much bare wall space they had been covering up. This was definitely an AHA! moment - more wall space on which to hang art!!! The drapes did not get cleaned but were given away, and I got pleated shades instead. The area between the ceiling and the top of the window is now covered with art in various media, as is the 10" to 12" on each side of the window that was previously covered by the drapes. This was a seminal event in my life, and made me really look at alternative possibilities, not just accept what has always been.

Thanks for an interesting question!

Regards,

Sophiecat
