My daughter wants this dress, http://www.cosanostrainc.com/acquire/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=16 . Does anyone have any pattern suggestions?

This dress? No patterns are springing to my mind & I can't quite work out what the lines of the dress are, but the pic might help someone else come up with some useful advice.

From last year's Project Runway, right? That does look like pretty unique design lines; I'm not sure sure how he does the bodice like that to get the stripes at those angles.

From what I can see this is a pretty easy basic dress.
It appears that a basic "tent dress" was the base pattern and the pattern was cut with the stripes running on the diagonal which is what is giving the bust a smooth fit look because it is running on the bias and hugging the body closely. There is a center front seam joining the two opposing fabric colors the decollatage is bias trim finished and judging by the angle of the straps is a halter of some kind or a raceback tank. Then if you look closely at the stripes just under the bust, you can see the off set of the lines which tells you there are several mini box pleats all along the midriff under the bust with the center fabric (fabric in between/center of the breasts) in the smallest of box pleats thereby giving this the drapey affect. The mini box pleats run from under the bust to just above the waist so it will fall off/over the waist not hug into it. Take note that the textile used for this design is extremely important and will only remain true to the presentation if you stay with a very drapey, fluid textile. This dress should take approximately 3-4 hours to make. I personally would use something with quite a bit of spandex in it so that I could forgo a zipper and make it a pull over, but an invisible zipper under the arm would be the second choice. JF
