I'm making a bias cut skirt in winter white wool, flannel weight. It is just a simple A-line style with an elastic, pull-on waist. Because of the color, I'm thinking I'd like to line it - though the pattern doesn't call for it.
I'm thinking that if I simply use the skirt pattern for the lining, it won't have enough give to it? Even if cut on the bias, a lining fabric won't have as much stretch as a wool flannel.
Do you think this is do-able or not? And I was thinking that if I did go ahead, I would simply eliminate the fabric foldover for the elastic tunnel and sew the lining to the skirt at the top and then topstitch through them both to create the elastic tunnel.
Your thoughts?

I would eliminate the casing for the lining and do as you've suggested - just make sure you leave enough there to catch when you fold over your fashion fabric.
In regard to your other question - can't help there, but since this'll be bumped back up, maybe someone else will have an answer.

Of course you can line it. I have seen patterns suggesting using a straight grain lining, but I don't think that I would do this, as the stretch really won't match. However, I would sew the lining slightly larger, ie, use a 1/2" sas instead of 5/8". If the fabric isn't wide enough it is easy enough to add a cf and db seam to fit your fabric.

Your thoughts about attaching at the waist are dead on.
It's true that your lining won't have the save bias "stretch" as the wool flannerl, but that's not all bad. If your lining is not attached at the hem but hangs loose from the waist, it won't affect the way the skirt fabric hangs or moves. The long term result is that the lining will allow the skirt to retain its lovely drape and flow through many more wearings.

Thanks, ladies. I thought that would be the way to go but wanted to be sure before I went ahead.
