I found a 1 yr old Platinum Plus and need to know what the "experts" think. (Moderated by Sharon1952, EleanorSews)

While looking at Vikings, yesterday at a local dealer's shop, the owner called my attention to a 1 yr old Husqvarna Viking Platinum Plus. She tells me it was meticulously kept by the former owner who received it Christmas of 2006 and decided to trade up this year. I should tell you all that I'm specifically in the market for a SM that is good for sewing quilts and doing some embrodiery. I guess I'd be classified as an advanced beginner. I've been sewing relatively simple projects on my 15 yr old Kenmore. I'm wondering if the $1000 price tag that the dealer has on this machine is a reasonable asking price...What do you all think? I'm very anxious to get any advice from those of you "in the know". Thanks.

Seems like a fair price. Does this include any software to download designs to the d-card? If not, you might want to see what is involved there in terms of added cost. I have 2 Vikings and love them both. The nice thing about the machine you are looking at is that it can use all the large hoops currently available for the top-of-line models including the endless hoop. There are some reviews for this machine here on PR under "sewing machines" tab--look for Viking machines and scroll down toward the bottom. The 950e is virtually the same. there are 3 or 4 reviews.

It depends if it has the reader/writer card and the software. The msrp on the reader/writer box and card is $299.00 and the 3D studio software to run the box is $150.00. I'm getting ready to sell mine and was going to ask $1200. That included the box, software, and some extras.
The machine doesn't have any built in designs, but it came with 2 D cards , one was general designs and the other was lettering. Additional D cards are available and retail for $150. If you use D cards you don't need the box or software.

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

Thanks for your replies. In answer to your questions. Yes, the machine comes with "all the software" and the reader/writer box, according to the dealer. I'm going back to the shop sometime over the next couple of days and give it a closer looks. It appears to be in beautiful condition. I want to have my husband go with me. He knows nothing about SM's but he does know quite a bit about computers. Thanks again. I'm excited to get a new SM and get started with an electronic machine for the first time.
