Yup, finally got something done on my drapes and curtains project. Had the calculations and cutting done for the front door curtain for months, so took advantage of today's cold weather to stay indoors and stitch it up. Turned out... um... okay, if you don't look too closely, or don't know what to look for. Still have two small windows over the mantle to go, plus the large drapes for the triple living room windows. This is gonna take a while!

They're olive polyester dupioni, with light blocker lining.

Just had to share!

Al, the drapes sound really beautiful. And don't worry, no one examines drapes carefully; they just admire the overall presentation.

Your drapes and curtains sound lovely! I hope you do a review with pictures of them. Sounds like the weather will be cooperating for you to sew for the next week! It was a great day to sew, I made a shirt for my son today and just need to hem and make buttonholes tomorrow.

Good for you. Congrats that this brrr weather motivated you. I like cold weather 'cause it gives me an excuse to stay inside, too. The weather forecast is calling for more of the same......................soooo..............now you can get your triple window draperies finished. Right?

Where did you find your polyester dupioni? I've been looking for a source for forever, it seems. TIA

Thanks for the nice words. I knew I could count on PR!

The fabric came from a Hancock which has now closed. It was on half price sale, so with the dec fabric, liner, stiffener stuff, thread, and whatever, I "only" spent a little over a hundred bux. YIPES! But then I looked at custom drapes, or even nice ready made drapes, and said, yeah, I'll do this.

And the old Universal machine is working out like a champ. I would have used Grandma's treadle, but it's all set up for the heavy duty items, and I don't want to change settings over for lightweight stuff and then have to change back. Sort of like having a drill motor for each size drill bit...

Congrats! No one else but you will "know where to look", so I'm certain that they look great.

I've never had a treadle machine. Sounds like a lot of work setting it up.

It's really no more difficult or trouble than any other machine, but I have the tension, bobbin tension, presser foot pressure, and needle size all set up to use with size E nylon bonded thread, on very heavy material, so it would be a pain to find the correct settings for lighter material and thread, then go back. Since I have another machine, why not set them up for the tasks they are best suited for, and leave them there as much as possible?

I heart the treadle machine. It is so sturdy, and can puncture darn near anything that will fit under the presser foot. I do abuse the poor thing; I should have an industrial. Just used the Juki straight stitcher here at work again today; the thing is like driving a Ferrari. Pure raw power and speed, with precision.
