I was adding a ruffle to a baby gown pattern and my first attempt is awful...I took it off beforr I sewed it. I made it too narrow...or do I mean short? Well, anyway the ruffle is not RUFFLED enough. When adding a ruffle is it 1and 1/2 or twice or ??? of the diameter of the garment at the hemline? (Am I making sense? been sewing all night and I am really tired...) This is a size 6 months baby goen if that makes a difference. Time for a nap and I will check in again tonight when I start to sew. thanks for all your help! You guys have been great!!!

Generally, I'd think you need at least twice the length to make it look properly ruffly. Three times would make it nice and frilly.

I always cut my ruffle width of the hemline. This makes a nice ruffly ruffle. For a baby gown, I would make the finished length of the ruffle 1 to 1 1/2 inches long.

I sew baby clothes too. Good luck!
