Digitizing software recommendation (Moderated by Pyrose)
Posted on: 1/21/08 3:45 AM ET
I imagine that collectively, you all have experience with every digitizing software on earth so I am turning to you. I own a Janome MC 9500 and wanted to know what your thoughts are on the best digitizing software.
Here is some background on why I ask:
I currently digitize using Viking's 3D Digitizer. I am relatively new to machine embroidery so this is the only software I have ever used. Although the software will let me save my files as JEF, when I transfer it to my card and put it in my machine, 90% of the time, I get a "damaged file" error. For the life of me, I can't narrow it down to the actual problem. I have tried manipulating everything including starting the same design from scratch multiple times and sometimes it works eventually, but other times it never does.
Anyhow, I am so frustrated, I am ready to buy digitizing software from another company that will, hopefully, deliver an undamaged design consistently. I would like the digitizer to be as full featured as possible and, although it would be great if it is reasonably priced, I am willing to spend the kind of money I spent on 3D (approximately $1K) to have all the features I currently have in 3D. I am also very technical (I work in the high tech industry), so it would be great if the software is easy to use but I can usually figure things out even if it's a little quirky. I have looked at the brochures for Janome's Digitizer Pro, which sounds great, but the advertising always sounds great.
Any information you guys wish to share as far as pros and cons to the digitizing software you use would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!
Jane

You seem to have more expierence than I do (I just got my first embroidery machine last week) but Embrid has a trial version of their software that you can use for 30 days. It might be worh checking out just to see if you like it.

Embird is a great program. I have the basic Embird, the iconizer, and one alphabet. Others have the entire suite which includes the Studio digitizing software and Font Engine in addition to the other plug-ins. I don't recall that the trial version of Embird included Studio because I'm not interested in digitizing. However, Embird is very reasonably priced but you do have to buy the additional plug-ins. Check out the website (I bought mine from www.secretsof.com) to see if there is a trial version of Studio.

I have Embird font engine and studio. I think that Embird provides a lot of features for the $$. The trial version will only let you create a few letters (I think a, b, c) and studio will not allow you to save your work, though you can try out it's features.
