Thinking or purchasing a used viking designer 1 machine. I've tried the vikings and like the feel of the machine. I am not a quilter and hardly use the embroidery stitches. I sew clothes so am interested in good finishing stitches, buttonholes, using a range of fabric types, etc. Would you recommend this machine? Many thanks for your input.

The Designers are embroidery machines. They would have the nice stitches and buttonholes, but so would an Interlude or Platinum (non-emb machines from the same year span). If you aren't interested in machine embroidery, a Designer probably doesn't make sense. I have a Platinum that I am happy with, as seem to be most people who talk about them here. The reviews on these machines will probably be very useful to you.

I have a Designer 1 and like it for sewing a variety of fabrics. Love the automatic pressure lift. Not totally crazy about the buttonholes but maybe it is me.

I have heard that there is a new machine coming out in the next 2 months, so you might want to wait as I imagine that there will be some even greater bargains on used D1s.
