a vent: AAAARGH! (Moderated by Sharon1952, EleanorSews)

I just had my Pfaff sewing machine serviced at a Pfaff dealer locally last week. I hadn't had it serviced in about 4 years so it was overdue, but nothing was really wrong with it. Well, I picked it up on Friday and tried to sew with it yesterday and now things are all awry! The tension is really messed up; it seems like the upper thread isn't going through the tension disks no matter how many times I try threading it. And it makes this terrible grinding noise when I stitch! I am really fuming mad over here and feeling so upset. The shop is almost an hour away from our house and I work part-time and have a toddler-- so frustrating! I sew almost everyday and I am just going into withdrawal right about now. I'll call tomorrow and see what we can do; I just really hope that nothing was really damaged. And I sure as heck am not going to take my machine there again.
In the meantime, I have pulled out knitting needles I haven't touched in 3+ years...

How frustrating.
I have never had an issue with a machine after servicing, but from the number who have posted recently here, it looks like many do.
I seems like you need to take a w-i-p with you when picking up a machine after servicing nowadays and try it out before taking it home.
Good luck getting it properly repaired.

Oh, Julia, I can SO empathize with you!! It's such a helpless feeling. After suffering withdrawals when my machine was out for 1 1/2 wks, I decided to keep my eyes open for a decent backup machine (probably vintage). I occupied myself by working a lot w/ my serger and prepping for future projects...tracing Ottobre's, cutting out pattern pieces (and fabric whenever possible), etc. I must say that, because of this, it was heaven when I got my machine back. Not only could I sew again, I got to bypass all of that mundane prep work and went straight to sewing! It was a great reward and I cranked out 3 pieces in a week's time (a feat for me!).
I hope you can TRULY get your machine fixed in a hurry...hang in there!

What a terrible bummer. I hope your machine is fixed soon.
