I like to sit next to DH while watching TV and because I like to keep my hands busy often do hand sewing or crafts. My husband prefers to watch with the lights dimmer than I would like. I've been thinking of getting a headlamp (like the ones you get for camping) that would allow light to shine on my work. I'm also getting olderand could always use a little extra light for fine work.

Has anybody ever tried that one of those headlamps for something besides camping? Or are there any other suggestions? DH is usually quite generous and will let me keep the lights on bright when I want them, but I'd like to see if there are other options that work.

Thanks, Susan

Susan, I've never used them for anything else, but my DH is a diesel mechanic and he uses one at work. It works well for him.

My boy and I both had LED head torches for various boat DIY activities, and I use mine for hand sewing all the time! It's perfect because you get a very, very bright light which makes it a lot easier on the eyes when you're looking at two different black fabrics and black threads... I wouldn't wear mine in public, but for home hand sewing it's great.

Hi Susan-- I used to use a headlight for surgery sometimes. The 'pro' is that it's a great light source, focused just where you want it. The con, for me, is that the headlamp fit snugly around my head, and triggered migraines for me. I always dreaded headlight surgery because of this. Don't know if you get migraines, but if you do I would be sure there's a good return policy on your light, just in case.

JoAnn's has small clip-on LED light that I use for hand-work or reading. Di.
