I can buy a new pair of Gingher's scissors-dressmaker's, 8", for half the price of what Joann's wants. Am I missing something? Thanks for all your answers on my last post of what type to buy- I'm down to the place to buy now!

Jazz,
Just make sure that the scissors are advertised as "new." Heavily used or abused (or heaven forbid, dropped) Ginghers are pretty much useless. If the Seller says they're 'like new,' don't buy. Personally, I also wouldn't buy if the Seller says they're used but recently sharpened, b/c many a pair of scissors is ruined by a knucklehead sharpening person. --Lily

Joanns has scissors for half price quite often. They also have 40% off coupons in all their mailers. You can also get store coupons online if you're on the mailing list. I probably have a dozen pairs of scissors and buy them on sale at Joanns.

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.
Re: Buy Gingher scissors on Ebay or Joanns? (posted on 3/31/08 10:50 AM ET)
I "almost" purchased a new pair on eBay, but then Joanne Fabrics had a sale so I usually end up getting my Ginghers there. I finally have my Ginghers hidden well enough where hubby won't find them and cut carpeting with them. He's already purchased me one new pair of Ginghers for that reason.
Ebay is a fantastic place to purchase many a thing - maybe even a pair of Ginghers - but buyer beware!
