I've mostly been sewing for my kids, but I'd like to start sewing more for me. I have lots of stuff in mind, summer weight dresses and skirts, capris, cute tops. Trouble is I don't know where to get age appropriate fabric since I've spent so much time and $$ building up my stash for stuff for my kids. Help a mama out, where's a great place to shop online or off that won't break the bank but has decent fabric?

I'm lucky enough to have a GREAT locally-owned fabric store nearby that also stocks some fashion apparel. (Field's Fabric - I think there are locations throughout Michigan). My favorite online sources are wazoodle and gorgeous fabrics.

I purchase fabric from all kinds of places. I do live on the West Coast, so there are stores to pick from. But I've purchased stuff from the internet too. Even Joann's occasionally has good stuff.
You should browse through the "Fabric Sources" thread above this one.

Can you tell us where you're located? I TOTALLY agree with WendyGR about Fields's. They get LOOOOOTS of my money, but not much help if you don't live in southwestern Michigan!
For myself, I shop online w/ Gorgeous Fabrics (FABULOUS knits!), Fabric Mart, and EmmaOneSock (usually a splurge, though) for starters. I haven't gotten a chance to shop Fashionista Fabrics yet but she gets nice reviews, too.

Even if you don't want to tell us where you are (which is fine!), you can search the fabric store reviews to find some good stores near you. I found a really good fabric store that way, and I probably wouldn't have otherwise!

If you are wanting to build a stash of adult fabrics, the Yahoo Group FabricsAndNotions is great. Ressy seems to find great fabrics at a fair price, but you can only see pictures of them and have a color number from a $20 Pantone color guide. Not good if you want to sew something right now, though, as there might be a long wait to find just what you want. This is a huge group, they even order specific colors from factories.
There is a listing of online fabric stores here on the Board. I have mostly tried Michael's (fantastic fabrics, usually expensive but great sales!) .

I live in Denver and buy from Hancock and Joann (in that order). I haven't been down to Denver Fabrics yet, and if there are any other retailers of fashion fabrics I don't know them. There's Wal-Mart, I may go dig around there too. I haven't ordered online yet because I have to touch things to really imagine what they would look like. There are a couple of things I plan to order online though, because I know they are safe bets: Dupioni silk for my wedding gown and some wicking fabric for sport clothing. Otherwise I am kind of chicken.

Doh! I missed that! Thanks I'll take a look now.
I'm in NC. I might try to take a trip to MaryJo's in the summer, it's about 3 hrs from me though, but I've heard it's worth it.

Locally I have one store to choose from, a Joanne Etc which carries a huge stock of craft items a decent selection of Home Dec fabrics and a tiny corner of fashion fabrics.
Good source for notions and patterns and not much else.
Online shopping is my only option, and I have used Fabric.com and Fashion Fabrics. com
Don't be in a hurry for the stuff from Fashion Fabrics though, great selection and good prices but I think the ship by snail.

I buy a lot of fabric on line these days, even though I am about 90 minutes from NYC by train.
There are a lot of internet sites reviewed, but my favorites are emmaonesock.com, manhattanfabrics.com, and sometimes fabricmart.com. The prices and quality are good. Emmaonesock will send free samples. I also like banksvilledesignerfabrics.com, but you have to call or email them with what you are looking for. They have great prices and quality.
