Where in the world are you all getting your gorgeous/trendy knit fabrics? It seems that all the knit tops that are reviewed here have interesting prints.

And my second question is how do you know that these prints will look fabulous on?

I have many more questions, but I'll save them for later.

I don't sew with as many prints as I do solids.
When I do pick a print I hold it up draped over the front on me and study it in a mirror. I kinda pinch and tuck and arrange the fabric similar to the style lines of the pattern I'm thinking of using. That way I can get an idea how the fabric and pattern will "mate". I may end up arranging the fabric a few different ways and changing my mind on the pattern to use with it.

I think it depends on personal preference. Some people love prints, and others think they're too busy.

I wear solids but would consider geometrics like some stripes, checks, polka dots, tweeds, or fabrics where the stitching is considered the design. I'm also willing to use a wild, fun print like leopard in small doses for accessories like scarves, shoes, belts and handbags.

Otherwise, I have to admit my wardrobe is a "print-free zone"... LOL.

I second the two sites Irene listed - they are my favorite along with Needle Nook Fabrics. On occasion I can find a few nice ones at Hancock Fabrics (and on very rare occasions, Joanns)

As far as determining what prints will look like on - if I'm at a physical store, I hold the material and drape it around myself. When I'm shopping online, I just try to 'visualize' what it will look like on (or what it might look like made into a particular garment). I tend to go with my instinct - if I like it in the picture I'll snag it, I haven't been disappointed yet! Most websites will also have some sort of customer creations type page which can give you some idea of what a particular material looks like made into a garment.

I love emmaonesock for knits. The quality is unbeatable. Her rayon solids are gorgeous. Marci Tilton's sells cotton lycra knits on her site and I have heard that they are great quality, but few patterns.
