I have some black, fine wale corduroy pants. They are a fairly expensive brand, well made and quite a good fit for RTW. The label says pure cotton.
I found them on a sale rack, covered in lint. No problem, I thought, they'll be fine with a good brushing. Wrong!
I've cleaned them with a clothes brush, velcro brush and one of those sticky pet fur rollers. I've washed them several times, drying them both outside on the line and in a dryer.
They look fine when I put them on, but within a hour of wearing them, they are starting to look fluffy. By the end of the day, I look as though I've been rolling on a white fur rug.
How can I stop them attacting lint? Is there a magic potion I can add to the washing water?

I think some anti static spray would work.

From what others have said, the nasty message came from Fitting Woes, NOT Misc Hot Topics or the Civility thread.

So it isn't a matter of getting lint off, but not attracting again after you've gotten it off.
Well, I suppose you could hang around only with black things, but that probably wouldn't work very well.
The only thing I can think of is using a dryer softening sheet when you machine dry the pants. That tends to reduce any static electricity, which helps reduce the attraction of little particles.
Other than that, carry a roll of masking tape in your pocket to pull stuff off!
Good luck.

With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

Thanks, but I've tried that too. Used tons, then left them to air outside. The pants are still a lint magnet.

Have you tried Static Guard spray? It has worked for me a few times. The only thing is I don't like the smell of it.
Good luck!

Is it possible to use a coloring remover (Rit dye remover) to make the black pants a lighter color? I've done that before in a washing machine...just do several whites only loads afterwards.

Why, do you think it may be the black dye that causing the pants to attract lint? They are a very rich black, which is one of the things I like about them.
Someone else has just suggested that I try soaking them for an hour or so in fabric softener (half a cup to 2 litres of water) then spin drying. I think I'll try that next.

No, it's not the black dye...corduroy attracts lint and black shows lint. Since you enjoy the color, I hope the fabric softener soak works.
ETA: A vinegar and water soak is suppose to help also (don't know what portions) and Bounce dryer sheets are advertised as helping prevent lint attraction...is that brand available to you?
Good luck...

I would try rubbing them down with the dryer sheets to get some build-up of the softener on them...sort of like a "non-stick" surface

As has been mentioned, I'd try white vinegar, too. Depending on how much water's in your washer, I'd put a half, to a full cup of white vinegar in the final rinse. If that doesn't work, then I think you'll need to carry a lint brush.
