Hi. I am brand new to this board, and am pretty darn new at sewing.

I knitted and felted a bag, and I need to sew a zipper into it. Also, I need to sew the handle shut around the ring I bought for it.

What needle should I use? A ballpoint needle, since it's a knitted fabric? What size? Any other pointers? I'm terrified I'm going to mess this up and break another needle.

Thanks in advance!

You could try a leather or denim needle, but really I think you're going to have to hand sew it with an upholsterer's needle, the heavy, curved kind. It would probably be easiest, most secure and most invisible to whip stitch the edges of the zipper tape to the felted fabric. If you do this on the machine I think it will create a lot of linty stuff you'll then have to clean out.

As for the ring does it go inside a flap that folds over it? You could hand sew that with yarn and do some needle felting to secure it and melt the stitches into the felting.

Welcome to PR. You could also ask your questions at Knitter's Review.
