I have some beautiful silky polyester I'm going to use to line a skirt -- one side is shiny, the other is more matte. Does it matter which side I use as the outside of the lining, i.e. the side that faces the inside of the skirt? I don't want to do it the "wrong" way (if there is a wrong way) and make my skirt ride up.

Hmm, maybe I should have posted this in the beginners' forum?

Joan, I think that the fabric would be oriented with the slippery side facing your body.

OK, any particular reason?

Hi Joan.

I think the answer is: So it doesn't ride up your leg. Although most likely both sides are slippery enough that it won't be critical.

If you have a non-slippery fabric against you, it might try to climb your leg a bit. This is particularly true if you wear it with nylons or tights. On the other hand, if the less smooth side is facing the fashion fabric, they will basically be moving together and there shouldn't be much of an issue.

With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

So your new username...your name and a number selected completely and totally at random and which bears no relationship whatsoever to the year of your birth, right?

Oh, OK. I was probably overthinking this, but I was thinking the less slippery side might ride up the fabric if I put the more matte side facing towards it. But "slippery side next to skin" sounds good and will feel great too. Thanks.

Yes, that's right... totally random. I just like the numbers 1, 9, 5, and 4.
