I just spent 3 days at sewing expo, and of course saw some things that may be my next favorite notion. One was a plastic tray that tilts the SM or serger to you to allow you to see the needle area without straining your neck. It's supposed to make your posture better, prevent back pain, etc. Does anyone use these and do they work? Do you like it? Does the machine slide around? Thanks for your input.

I don't have one, but one idea that's cheaper than that plastic tilt tray is buying a set of two or three rubber door stops. Placing them under your SM works just as well and saves you $$$.

Tilting your sewing machine forward definitely helps. The tilt tables are really nice, but also being a resourceful person, I passed. I used 2 scrap pieces of wooden trim wrapped in in the plastic shelf lining. It's the same stuff that people use to keep their foot pedals from slipping. It works like a dream and it was free!

That's more money for fabric and patterns, lol.

Donna, I love your idea about the door stops. I'm going to find some for my serger.

You can also buy a wrist support such as the ones used by computer folks - the band that is put in front of the keyboard to rest their wrists. That is what I have and it works perfectly.

I use the rubber door stops, too. IMHO, it's easier than the tilt tray seems and of course, it's a heck of a lot cheaper.

Thanks for the reminder about the rubber door stops. I am off to WM later and think I will pick up a few. My eyes and back are getting old and this might do the trick.

Tilting DEFINITELY helps.

From someone who has been in physical therapy for eight months with thoracic outlet syndrome (pinched nerves in the neck and upper back, due to strained muscles) caused by non-ergonomic sewing set up - and sewing too many hours a day at that set up.

Of course, you goddesses are full of great ideas, and cheap ones at that! Thanks so much, I'll add the stops to my Walm list.
