I am struggling with extra fabric at the base of my neck at the back. I have used the High bust measurement for pattern size and have tried a high rounded back adjustment but this hasn't helped. It's as if I need to add a centre back seam and curve it at the top. Is there anyone else that has to do this adjustment or is there an easier way. Thanks Kathy

I often add a center back seam, as I have a sway back. A center back seam really helps in fitting if you have any curve in your back--at the upper back, lower back or both.

Most of the time I add a center back seam on tops and jackets. I also use the "Emily" adjustment shown in Gail Grigg Hazen's book "Fantastic Fit for Every Body". There are also some adj ustments shown in the Palmer & Pletsch book "Fit for Real People" When we reach a "certain age" it can be a challenge to figure out how to fit ourselves. You might want to check out some of these books. Three other books that might help are "Fitting & Pattern Alteration" by Liechty, Potberg and Rasband, "The Sew/Fit Manual " by Ruth Oblander and Joan Andersen and " Fitting Finesse" by Nancy Zieman. I've done a good bit of research and have found all of these books to be helpful. You might want to check out your library to see if they have any of the books so you can check them out before purchasing. You can find a lot of these books used at www.addall.com and search under used/out of print books.

Occasionally I'll get that too. Either neck darts, neck gathering or a CB seam will solve it. Whatever works. You have company with this issue

Thanks everyone. Glad I'm not the only one with this issue. I think it will be a lot easier on all of the fitting process to put a CBS in.
Ann -I have found the CBS option in FFRP thanks.
Does adding a CBS create any other fitting issues that I need to be aware of???

My DD say that she can tell if I made my shirt because it has a seam down the back! I almost always add a center back seam of 3/4 - 1 inch. It helps me to make sway back and upper back issues and often gives me a bit of extra at my disappearing waist.
