I'm new to this website and I hope this is posted in the correct Forum.
I make receiving blankets and clothing for infants that are donated to our local hospital which in turn are given to unwed mothers or mothers who need help.
This is the first time I've had time to make summer outfits and have no idea how to figure the lengths of the elastic for the waist and upper thighs for the panties/diaper covers. The patterns only give age, lbs., and length of the baby. My youngest grandchild is 4 so I can't use her measurements.
Any suggestions will be most appreciated.

Welcome! And what a wonderful idea!
I don't have any specific measurements for you (sorry), but you could always snoop shop w/ a tape measure.
Hopefully this helps a teensy bit?

Donna,
I think going to a store with a pad and pencil and measuring the waist and leg openings of same-sized ready to wear infant clothes would be helpful.
It must be a lot of fun to make blankets and baby clothes for needy moms.

You could use approximate measurements of elastic (go with a short measurement), and sew ribbon on each end to make it adjustable when tied in a bow. Of course you would have to make a buttonhole opening somewhere in the casing, which may be too much work, but it would make the outfits able to be worn longer. or...
I just found a chart in one of my baby sewing books. These are measurements to cut the elastic for regular girl or boy bloomers or diaper covers, with 1/2 " overlap:
Waist Leg
3mth - 11.25" 7.75"
6mth - 12.25" 8.50"
12mth- 12.50" 8.75"
18mth- 13.00" 9.00"
24mth- 13.50" 9.50"
Hope this helps!

Thank all of you very much for the suggestion of going to a store and taking measurements. I don't know why I didn't think of that myself!
SheilaAnn, thank you soooooooooooo much for taking the time to look up those measurements for me! This is a tremendous help and very much appreciated.
