I seem to have problems with McCall's. Does anyone else? I haven't given up on them though.

I actually like McCalls, but have to keep in mind that I need to go down at least two sizes because of the excess ease. Their knit tops fit me well, if I start with a small or X-small in the neck and upper chest and do an FBA to bring it out to a large.

I seem to have problems with mccalls, butterick & simplicity patterns. they have way too much wearing ease and never seem to fit quite right. Best patterns I've used (with a 99% success rate) is BWOF.

Butterick instructions (for me) are horrid. Too much info, not enough, weird wording. Heck, at least w/ BWOF I get a great result for that sort of hassle! Which, BTW, I'm w/ Deb. I'm sold on Burda. I can pretty much wear them straight from the magazine, and the drafting on the European patterns is SO much better than the Big 4!

Are BWOF patterns for more advanced sewers, in your opinions?

No, BWOF have simple patterns as well. The instructions are pretty lack luster though, so if you want to sew something up from BWOF, you have to read and re-read until you get that "ahhhhh right!" moment! But the patterns are SO well drafted and they fit like a darn!!! With little alterations I might add!!!

From what others have said, the nasty message came from Fitting Woes, NOT Misc Hot Topics or the Civility thread.

I refer to my sewing books as well as other patterns in my stash w/ similar treatments often w/ Burda...oh, and of course, PR. Yes, they're a challenge, but I also think they've helped me grow as a sewer, as I'm forced to use my head and intuition with them.

I love BWOF. I have quite a collection dating all the way back to 2003. I should use them more, as the fit and drafting are superb. With these styles though, I have to be more careful, as there is very little extra ease!
