How is it better? (Moderated by Sharon1952)

I've been reading about these irons and I was just wondering if you all think they are worth having? How are they different, performance wise, than a "regular" iron? Thanks in advance.

I just got the Consew gravity feed iron about a month ago and I really like it. I was burning through about an iron a year and decided to try something different. I like the large water jug that demineralizes plain tap water and you can iron for days without having to refill. The iron is heavy, but you don't have to go over the same spot more than once. The weight of the iron does the pressing for you so there isn't alot of pressure required. I liked the idea that water doesn't lay inside the iron and corrode all the internal parts. It takes about 10 minutes to heat and it doesn't have auto shutoff. You must press a button for steam, but the steam is nice and strong. It makes ironing very easy, not only for sewing, but also for every day pressing. I paid $89 on sale at Allbrands and got free shipping so I figured it was well worth trying at that price. I believe you can also purchase replacement parts for these irons, so they aren't as disposable as the Rowentas I've had in the past. It seems more heavy duty than a normal steam iron. It came with a non stick teflon shoe and glides along so smoothly. I'd recommend the gravity fed to anyone who does much ironing.

I bought the Conserve too about 2 months ago for the same reason, I was going through expensive irons. It has a lot more steam and I haven't refilled it yet!

Also too, it's the weight of the darn things - they clock in at almost 5 lbs.
The weight makes it very easy to get a good press.

I agree with what others have said above. A gravity feed iron is a great addition to your sewing equipment.
I bought mine (Naomoto HYS 58) a couple of months ago, after attending a 4-day sewing seminar where there was one for attendees to use. I had never used one before and was so impressed with how perfectly pressed our garments were with so little effort. Just enough, but not too much, steam that you can completely control. The one at the seminar was a Consew 300.

I concur with everyone. It was less money than another Rowenta...and looks like it will live a very long time. It doesn't have that short life look to it...
Mine was also a consew from Allbrands.
