the hunt for more information (Moderated by Sharon1952, EleanorSews)

"As the bobbin turns," my relentless search for the best sewing machine upgrade for me and my money took me to these three articles posted in the blog Evidently.
Be warned that each article is practically a novel. I'm not kidding. But well worth a read (very entertaining) if you are an infovore on sewing machines. Also, I ordered the articles from most recent to oldest, since I found the most recent article most interesting of the three.
1. Too Much Information (Updated)
2. The Embroiderer Strikes Back
3. Bernina, Viking, Pfaff, Oh my!
Is what she wrote the whole truth and nothing but the truth? I'll have to do my own intensive research . . . I too happily suffer from TMI syndrome.

Interesting articles filled with information. I was happy to learn that after conducting exhaustive research on all the brands, the author chose a Viking Platinum 775, an almost exact clone of my 770.

Great articles. I took notes, but I don't think these people have children, they've got more brain matter to devote. I wonder when they will research sergers and coverstitchers?

interesting reading most of it correct. Not sure I like the way he down Singers. The Singe high end machine are fine. I have a Singer CXL and also anyone who has the Singer Xl5000 and the XL6000 raves about them. I always depend on my on research when parting with my money not someone elses.

Good reading, but you have to find what you like, what appeals to you both aesthetically and mechanically (computerized-ly?). O.K...so I too chose a Platinum, but that's because I like my stitches right there in front of my nose, not buttons and touch screens, and I LOVE the sound...someone else might love the features I do not, and some people do not like the Viking sound. I am deliriously in love with mine though...
I like their relationship as well. Very nice to see and read such a close couple and such interesting people!

Thank you for posting the links. I read all three, although the top one is the most helpful to me. I really appreciate all the info it contained.

I've been in hot pursuit for the perfect machine and have experienced major, catastrophic jitters with the D1 that I put on hold. I cancelled that hold--jitters completely overwhelmed me despite the great reviews about the machine and great dealer support and great price. My poor local dealer! How much she has to put up with someone like me! But I can't, just can't bring myself to buy a machine when my body is shaking from nervousness just thinking about purchasing it. I feel like the bride about to walk down the aisle and that used D1 floppy awaiting me at the threshold. My dealer the pastor who's going to marry us. "Dearly beloved, we gather here today to join this freaked-out sewing geek and this sewing machine whose sewn his wild oats in holy stitchery . . ." Yikes.
Now I'm on the hunt for the Platinum 770 or 775, which led me to these articles in the first place. I just found out that Viking dealers are not supposed to ship Vikings out of their store. VIKING WILL VOID THE WARRANTY. I found that out from the horse's mouth Viking HQ.
Here's a juicy tidbit for all of you who found these articles quite interesting:
Wende, the writer of the article in Evidently, bought her Platinum 775 from PoconoSewAndVac. She doesn't live in PA but in OR. So Pocono sold and shipped her the Platinum 775. The juice here is that Pocono was the one who warned me of the voided warranty issue with machines shipped out of area. But Pocono did tell me that this voided warranty issue is a new policy with Viking. Even so, now I wonder if her Platinum 775 warranties are now voided anyway, whether she bought it before the policy was put to work.
Ah, well. It's still "as the bobbin turns" with me. I do hope to find a virgin Platinum 775 from a dealer nearby, even hoping for a gently used one...

I seriously doubt you will need the warranty. That is a really weird rule though. What difference does it make, its their machine. I would think that would be illegal. Its not right. Makes me mad to even read it.
I have the lily, never had any problem with it ever. I don't know what they are talking about, a weird sound. There is no weird sound.
The thing with Singer is alot of them are really nightmares. I don't like having to pick one out that is ok, would rather just stick with the brand that has all of them good, no matter what one, what year, etc. and not have to worry about a lemon.
