In the process of choosing a new sewing machine. I like the sound of the Janome MC4900QC. I am new to quilting and also do soft furnishings, garments etc. The only thing that bothers me is if it has anything similar to the Pfaff IDT system which ensures even feed of top and bottom layer of fabric. Ensures dead straight seams, no slight curving if you know what I mean. I like the machine and the price, but want to feel happy I shouldn't really be buying the new Pfaff Expressions 4 (if I had the money!)
Would be grateful if someone could advise.

Nope - no IDT, BUT you can get a walking foot if you need it. My experience with the Janome made machines I have had is that the wide presser foot needs no help. And there is a trick that I learned here on PR in one of Debbie Cook's helpful messages and it is to hold your finger in back of the presser foot while you sew if your fabric is one you have issues with.

I have a Pfaff with IDT, and I can tell you that the finger trick is just as good in about 98% of the cases. In the case of sewing collars, you cannot beat IDT, unles you use the old Singer Sewing Book method of sewing them from the center back in one direction and then from center back in the other!

I would love to have the MC4900QC!!!

Have you the opportunity of trying one out? I would go see one and play with it.See what is out there in person.

I was just buzzing through ebay and saw the MC4900QC listed right on top of a J6600P. I thought when I read this thread that the 4900 must be cheaper than the 6600. I don't think at a dealer there is much difference in price. I have not sewn on a 4900 much, but the 6600 has that walking type foot you mentioned, and I would think that it is a much better machine for what you want with its larger harp. Before you finally decide, I would look at and sew on a 6600, or even a 6500P. I have the 6500 and really like it, and if I had not already bought it with all kinds of special feet before the 6600 came out, I would own the latter. Just a suggestion to give you more options.
