I am making a trick or treat bag for my son out of Thomas the Tank engine cotton fabric. It is very flimsy and I didn't have enough interfacing, so I took some thicker twill and spray adhesive-d the pieces together, then will need to add handles and sew the bag.
Should I NOT put these pieces through a sewing machine. It is small enough (my son is 3) to sew by hand - like 10" by 10".
The bottle says to let stuff dry for 1 hour, but doesn't say if safe to machine sew afterwards. My instinct says 'don't do it' - don't want to gum up the machine. But on the other hand it is small enough that maybe it won't do any damage??? Whaddya think?? Thanks - Cheryl C.

I don't know, depends on what you're using. I use temporary spray adhesive all the time in my machines with no problem. However, if you've used something that actually fabric glue, that could be a problem. What's the name of the product?

Once it is dry it should be fine. The only thing you would ruin would be a needle. I use temporary adhesive all the time and sew through it. I also sew through glue stick, but only after it is dry. I dry it faster by ironing.

I don't think it'll harm the machine. You may get a gummed up needle, or it may skip stitches. I wouldn't be surprised even after it's dried if the stitches skipped, as some glues can stay tacky, and it only takes a little for the loop not to form properly on the bottom.

Still, there's one way to find out. :)

I used Elmer's Craft Bond Acid Free Multi-Purpose spray adhesive. I think I'm gonna go for it, especially since it is such a small piece. Thanks for your quick replies!! CC
