I'm seeing lots of chiffon flowers, ruffles, trim, etc. on sweaters, silk shirts, and dresses in stores right now and they all seem to have raw edges, can you just cut out the pieces and form a flower, or are they treated somehow to prevent fraying? The flowers I was looking at definitely had some edges that weren't on the bias, so I know it's not bias-cutting. The edges didn't look perfect, but they weren't frayed either, I couldn't figure it out. Thanks!

I suspect that a lot of raw edged chiffon trims (JCrew uses a lot) are actually laser-cut, which would be mighty tricky to duplicate.

If the chiffon is polyester, they may have been cut with a hot knife which would keep them from fraying.

If it is silk and cut on the bias it won't fray.

Do you think the laser cutting prevents the fraying then? I was in J.Crew the other day and the chiffon flowers I felt didn't seem like poly.
