I'm not a beginner but I've never used sew-in interfacing before and I have an urgent question.

This stuff is non-woven, but it has a definite grain with all the fibers laid in one direction rather than the web-like, non-directional mass I'm used to in fusable interfacing.

When cutting for a waistband should I be cutting it with the grain, parallel to the lay of the fibers, or against the grain, crosswise to the lay of the fibers?

TIA

I'm not an interfacing expert, but you don't want the waistband to stretch and have the waist get bigger, so I'd cut it with the grain.

I can't figure out if I should be making sure it won't stretch doing it that way or making sure it won't crumple up as I bend. Folding it crosswise gives a firmer texture that way than folding it lengthwise.

I'd definitely go with lengthwise for a waistband.
