I am using a suit weight wool to make a coat and planned to underline(interline?) with a cotton flannel to give some more warmth and weight to the fabric. Do I still need to interface the coat fronts, back, and sleeves? I will interface the facings and collar of course. My "Jackets for Real People" gives no information on the use of interlining. but they interface everything.

The coat is not fitted and has a tie(M5767) so I don't want it too stiff and I will be lining it with china silk.
Thanx,
jan

Interlining is for warmth and I have always attached it to the lining. It has nothing to do with interfacing, which must be used and depending on your fabric, interface the entire front, the upper back and all hems. I also use a bias fusible in the sleeve cap. You can also underline the entire coat to give more body to a light weight fabric plus an interlining for warmth.

Ok, thanx for the info..I was thinking that if I treated the flannel and the wool as one, that that might take the place of the front and back interfacing. I'll try attaching the flannel to the lining. I'm just finishing up my muslin and will start cutting today.
thanx again,
jan
