Ran across this store/website that lists all the different types of thread gutterman makes, not just what you usually find in the fabric stores. I think they sell mostly to industry.
Anyways, you'll find descriptions of the weight (including Tex #), composition (spun, poly, texturized, etc) and what you might use it for. They carry a lot of fine-weight poly thread you might use in the serger to prevent impressions from pressing on the right side.

I live just a few miles from this store and didn't even know it existed! Thanks so much for posting. I'm going to check it out soon.
