How could I make this? (Moderated by Sharon1952)

I constantly keep loosing my little scissors, seam ripper, thimble (when hand-sewing), etc. A while ago I ran into something on the internet called a chatelaine - a little tool to hold all those sewing supplies while you are hand-sewing (mending, darning, etc.) I would like to make one for myself and both mom and MIL. I found different images on google, but was wondering whether any of you have something similar and have likes/dislikes and could offer some simple instructions what would be the best way to approach this. I'd like to sew it (I saw a lot of metal once, but I'd like to make a fabric one). Thank you.

there are a few patterns out there for chatelaines - mostly cross stitched or embroidered - like this more traditional one, but I think something like this is more practical and shouldn't be too difficult to make to suit your requirements without a pattern. I made a scrap bag the same many years ago that I still use when doing handwork. A chatelaine might be nice too!

The second one looks really good. I think I can definitely make my own pattern for something like that. I am wondering though how long this should be? What height should the pockets come to? Any idea?

Thanks for pointing to that idea, I think I'll make one. I made a sewing apron once, umpteen pockets, but an apron is sometimes cumbersome, this chatelaine idea looks as though it will work.

There is a movie with Susan Sarandon (Romance and Cigarettes - a very quirky sort of a musical) where she wears a really nice sewing vest with lots of pockets. I can't find photos anywhere, but I do remember thinking that it looked very practical and was nicely designed.
